I only bothered to take pictures of green onions.

I was finally able to convince my dad to make his onion pancakes for me. It's hard to get him to do anything at all since he comes home from work, just wanting to be lazy like anybody who likes to be lazy.

The green onion pancakes ("green onion oil crackers" when translated directly in my language -- Cantonese) that my dad makes can't be found anywhere else.. at least from the 2 places I've tried to eat at. They're pretty dry and actually not that oily and thicker, plus, it's not fried!

If you're wondering how to make them, I can only tell you from what I see because I have never asked my dad how to make it. Make some dough (I don't know how to make the dough...), cut the green onions, mix it in with the dough along with lots of oil and salt, mush it, roll the dough into a long... thing, cut them about an inch big and then roll them flat. Cook them on a frying pan and voila!

I really advise you to just look it up on Google.

Whenever I watch movies or videos and people suggest, "Why, let's go grab some Chinese food!" , 99.99999% of the time,. they order chow mein. And they don't even say it correctly (assuming chow mein is the English version of the Cantonese version). I even had one time when I decided it would be fun to try and work a day at my friend's fast food place, a customer point to the fried rice and say, "I want that chow mein."

I'd say, yes, chow mein, szechuan chicken, kung pao chicken, dumplings and fried rice have all, probably, originated from China but let me educate for a minute: There's more Chinese food than that crap.

As a matter of fact, I don't eat those generic well-known Chinese foods that much because my parents would probably sneer at it and tell me to keep my wallet safe. I guess it's because my mother grew up in Hong Kong and they were widely influenced by the British. She's used to eating Westernized Chinese food and we eat that on a regular basis (too regular if you asked me).

My dad's an all out Mainland China guy and eats all the weird (not to him of course) and unique Chinese delicacies. I really like Shanghai food: Xiao Long Bao, Tam Tam Mein .. etc.

But living in Canada has uprooted my roots and if you asked me to go eat some Dim Sum, I'd probably turn you down and would rather go have that Salmon Burger and Strawberry Lemonade at Red Robins. Mmmmmmmm!

The sun's light peaks through those grey Vancouver clouds and spills into my room everyday. I might as well write something about what happens afterward.
